A ruling by the Department of Health and Human Services has gotten many up in arms over its decision regarding contraceptive coverage.
The ruling issued by the Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathy Sebelius would require religious-affiliated organizations to provide health care options to female employees that would include preventative prescription contraception, as well as the morning after pill, without any sort of cost sharing for women.
Now, less than a month old, the ruling faces stiff opposition from religious groups, as well as many Republicans including presidential hopeful Rick Santorum, the contention being that it tramples on the First Amendment rights of employers who are morally against birth control options.

The new ruling could force some religious-affiliated organizations to provide contraceptive care options in employee health care plans for female workers.
Perhaps most interesting is that at least one state’s Attorney General, Nebraska’s Jon Bruning, has already announced plans to sue in an effort oust the policy on First Amendment religious grounds.
Look for more from me on this issue, from a local perspective, in the next few weeks.
